Creating a Classroom Website with Weebly

Today I am going to share how to create a teacher website. I have created both a teacher portfolio and classroom website on
WEEBLY. Weebly is a free and easy to use website building plateform that is great for educators

Other great website builders are:

  • WIX. WIX is a free website builder that also has an easy drag/drop system. I know several teachers who have used WIX and love it.
  • BLOGSPOT. This is part of Google’s system and mostly used for blogging vs. building a traditional website. This teacher blog was created on Blogspot.
  • SQUARESPACE. I have friends that have used squarespace and they find it easy to use - it seems to have a similar drag and drop function as Weebly. Squarespace costs money to create a site.
  • Wordpress.com or Wordpress.org. These websites offer more customization and people create beautiful sites. I have tried wordpress.com but found it very difficult to use.
A classroom website is a great way to connect with your room parents and share information/resources with students. I put a link to my website at the end of my school email signature and on back to school information for easy access for families.

To create a Weebly website for either your classroom or teaching portfolio you first need to sign up and create a website name. You sign up using your email address and then creating a unique password. Your website name should describe your class or you- I suggest using your room number, school name, or your name. You then click "Add Site" to create a new website. Your website will automatically have a ".weebly.com" URL- this URL name is free. You can pay to upgrade to a ".com" URL for approximately $40/year.

Within the theme you can change the font, colors, and background images. To change the fonts you go to “Theme” (this is the top tab) and then go to “change fonts”. You can change the fonts for the body of paragraphs, title, blog titles, etc.

If you have bought or downloaded fonts from TPT or another website you can use those too! I created the welcome page of my classroom website on PowerPoint and then screenshot the image. You can than add the PowerPoint image with your custom fonts. (*see below for an example).

You can create many different pages within Weebly. To create a new page you go to “Pages” and can add and rename the page. You can create a standard page, blog page, category page (this means that you create multiple subpages), external link page, and store page. You can make subpages by creating a page and then dragging the page to the right.

Example of Subpages
Example of different header types- you can choose to have a header (image or text) or not

You can choose a color for your background, choose an image from Weebly's library, or upload your own background photos.

In the "theme" tab you can choose different fonts, colors, and sizes for your titles, body paragraphs, links, etc.

These are some extras that you can add to each blog post or page.

Other Weebly Resources
